A Victorian pine Orkney Chair

A Victorian Pine Orkney Chair, with a woven straw back above a box seat. 

The Orkney Islands famously have very few trees and timber was scarce, this chair has been made up from drift wood and remnants of paint still remain from its previous use. The commercially made chair were constructed with coffin screws where this one is constructed with nails making it a genuine vernacular example of an early Orkney chair.
