Sir Robert Lorimer Chair

SOLD

Code: 10077

An early and rare oak chair designed by Sir Robert Lorimer and probably made by William Wheeler of Arncroach. Made with a pegged construction and a 'Bible' drawer to the base, this is an arts and crafts interpretation on of a Scottish vernacular style.
Only 3 models of this chair are known to exist, one is in Lorimer's family home at Kellie Castle and is shown in a photograph of the drawing room in 1893, the other belonged to Lorimer in Gibliston and is now in the National Museum of Scotland Collection.
David Jones illustrated the chair in his article for the Regional Furniture Society in 2017 "Robert Lorimer's Use of Timber"
